Glam Up the Wedding: Choosing the Perfect Makeup Style for Bridesmaids

As a makeup artist, I play a pivotal role in enhancing the beauty and confidence of brides and their bridesmaids. While the focus is undeniably on the bride, bridesmaids also deserve to shine on the big day. Coordinating makeup styles for bridesmaids can be both exciting and challenging. You want to ensure they look stunning while complementing the overall bridal aesthetic. In this blog, we'll explore some makeup styles that are perfect for bridesmaids, ensuring they stand out in the bridal party.

I always tell my brides that they are the anchor and the looks that I will create for the bridal party will complement her bridal look. My goal is for everyone to look cohesive in the wedding photos. For example, if the bride has a beautiful soft classic look I would recommend against a bold liner and a dark lipstick for a bridesmaid look. This will not look cohesive in the photos.

Cohesive Color Palette: The first step in choosing the right makeup style for bridesmaids is to consider the overall wedding color palette. Coordinating makeup colors with the bridesmaid dresses and the wedding theme creates a harmonious and visually pleasing look. If the wedding has a neutral color scheme, opt for soft and subtle makeup shades. For more vibrant weddings, you can incorporate bolder hues that still complement the color palette.

Natural Beauty: A timeless and versatile makeup style for bridesmaids is the "natural beauty" look. This style enhances each bridesmaid's features without overwhelming their faces. I would use neutral tones for eyeshadows, soft blush, and a nude or pinkish lipstick. The focus would be on achieving flawless skin with foundation and concealer, and using false lashes for an extra touch of elegance.

Classic Smoky Eyes: For bridesmaids who want a touch of drama, the classic smoky eye is an excellent choice. This makeup style adds depth and allure to the eyes, making them stand out in photos. I would stick to earthy or grayish tones for the eyeshadow and blend them seamlessly. And pair this look with a neutral lip color to keep the focus on the eyes.

Bold Lips, Soft Eyes: To create a striking contrast, consider a makeup style with bold lips and soft eyes. This style works exceptionally well for weddings with a more understated color scheme. Bridesmaids can opt for shades like deep red, berry, or even a bold coral lipstick, while keeping the eye makeup subtle with soft eyeshadows and natural eyelashes. Keep in mind that bolder lips do require more work when it comes to touching up. I would recommend in this case that every bridesmaid purchases a long wearing lipstick for touchups.

Individual Customization: Remember that bridesmaids may have different preferences and skin tones. It's essential to customize makeup styles to suit each bridesmaid's unique features and comfort level. A makeup trial beforehand can help you understand their preferences and tailor the look accordingly. For a bridesmaid that is very concerned about her makeup I would strongly suggest that she book a trial as well.

In addition to proper skin care for the bride I also strongly recommend that the bridal have a skincare routine so there makeup goes on beautifully.

Choosing the perfect makeup style for bridesmaids involves a balance between creating a cohesive look and celebrating individual beauty. By considering the wedding's color palette, bridesmaid preferences, and the overall theme, you can create makeup styles that make the bridal party look and feel their best. My goal as a makeup artist is to enhance the natural beauty of the bridesmaids, ensuring they complement the bride and radiate confidence on this special day.
